Zoning restrictions can be found in a document called the City Zoning Code and is available at each city’s City Hall. Zoning codes vary from city to city. It will detail use of property, parking on streets, placement and construction requirements of the main residence, outbuildings and fences.
Many cities also have codes regarding type or number of pets living on the property or restrictions regarding storage of recreation vehicles.
If you plan to use your home for anything other than a residence, or have a special need, discuss this with an appropriate city employee, explaining, in detail, what your intentions are and ask for a written response form the City Manager. Should any future changes regarding the property use occur, then your position is very poor if it is solely supported by a verbal agreement.
